Mini-splits and central air systems can both provide effective cooling, but they distribute conditioned air differently. Central air relies on ductwork to move air throughout the home, while ductless mini-splits use individual indoor units connected to an outdoor system.
Mini-splits can be useful for older homes without ducts, additions, finished spaces or rooms needing more independent temperature control. Central air may be a better fit for homes with existing ductwork and broader whole-home cooling needs.
